Nature of E-Learning

E-Learning is a formal system of teaching and learning in which delivery of lessons and lectures are mainly based on electronic resources, hence the name E-Learning; why not called E-Teaching? I think it is not called so because the focus of the process is the learner. This form of education can either be conducted in the classroom or out of the classroom; however, the major component of E-Learning is computer and internet. It is also called online learning or eSchool. With the advancement of technology and readily availability of computers and smartphones, this network-based education is globally embraced. Books and other forms of educational materials are actually getting out of the system in the presence of their electronic forms.

E-Learning has proven to be the most convenient and cost-effective means of impartation of knowledge in many aspects of human endeavours. Online learning has proven to be several steps ahead of the traditional mode of teaching and learning. As a result, corporate bodies and other organisations have adopted online learning to train their staff.

Effective online learning goes beyond the mere availability of computers, internet and other gadgets. An efficient Learning Management System (LMS) is a prerequisite. LMS and website integration is the basis of every result oriented online learning process. The LMS facilitates the elearning procedure through provision of interactive tools that provides creation of courses and accessibility to students. Such efficient E-Learning platforms possess tools that function beyond what is practised and can be imagined in the traditional classroom; all in an automated manner.
